From an Emmaus Confirmation Service Retreatant
Dear Bishop Costello,
The church and God have been a huge part of my life since I was born. My parents have helped me shape my faith. In the past two years, my faith has been a little rough, and I thought God was just fake, but going to religion and Mass, I finally have understood my faith in God. On October 2, 2016, I participated in a religious retreat to help prepare food and feed men at the homeless shelter. My Mom forced me to go. I thought it would be boring and that I would not learn anything. After listening to the stories and how God has helped people through hard times, it made me realize that God is present in my life. The religious retreat put the pieces back together and helped me get closer to God. I pray to Him when I need the strength to continue. I pray for others to help them during hard times. I have noticed a huge difference in my life now. One thing I am very thankful for is the Church, how people are faithful, thankful, and are disciples of God. I believe now I am a disciple of God and I’m proud to be one. Getting confirmed is the next step in my faith, and I will continue to pray and go to Church.

Dear Ms. Austin,
Thank you for letting me have the opportunity to volunteer at Emmaus Ministry. Aside from completing my required service hours, it was a great learning experience that I enjoyed very much. Our interaction with the people that we served showed me the way of helping people. That is to treat them as equals. I thank you again for the great time I had there, for the lesson I learned from you, and for the opportunity that you gave me.
The work you do on an everyday basis is remarkable. You are a citizen that we should all try to be like. Thank you for letting me join in your mission, and make an impact on the poor and needy. You show passion, patience, and love. On behalf of many, thank you!
